The Tin Can, the Tank, and the Derp

The first person who ever looked into the possibility of armored mobile machine existence was Leonardo da Vinci. His draft of the primitively designed military vehicle (according to our today’s understanding) is dated by XV century. Nevertheless, the tank became an essential part of warfare near 110 years ago. WoT has over 400 military machines disturbed over ten tiers starting from early historical tries in tank construction and ending with highly technological prototypes from the middle of the twentieth century. Not every in-game armored vehicle was present IRL. There is a number of conjectural concepts, which schematics and blueprints have never existed.

The Tin Can. World of Tanks begins with Tier I. Don’t get frustrated realizing that a thin iron plate is your only protection from shells bombarding all around the battlefield. Do not let these faintly powered and hardly following orders vehicles disappoint you. A majority of Tier I light tanks are present in the game just to make a player familiar with the mechanics. True battles at higher levels are flooded with big bad armored monsters.

The Tank. There are five types of fighting vehicles in WoT: self-propelled guns (SPG), light (LT), medium (MT), heavy tanks (HT) and tank destroyers (TD).  Stats vary dramatically according to the class of the machine. Each of them has its strong and weak sides:

  • LTs are considered good scouts and excellent flankers.
  • MTs in World of Tanks have combined features of light-weighted highly maneuverable vehicles and slow impenetrable heavies.
  • HTs are for brawling; they carry out the battle while being in its flash points.
  • TDs inflict damage with the outmatched rate per minute, but have various vulnerabilities and won’t last long being caught in a crossfire.
  • SPGs are unique units with specific gameplay. Artillery strikes seldom but powerfully. In a close tie, they have quite small chances to beat an enemy, but their support during the combat can decide a battle.

The Derp. The higher tier is, the thoroughly WoT tank stats should be examined. The key to success is to play your armored vehicle to its strength. You won’t be curious about gun depression and elevation during your first battles but later on these technical specifications will be vital for you to become a successful player. The same works with spaced armor, shell types, etc. At some point of higher tiers, you will encounter so-called derp guns (or lol cannons). This term describes a weapon of ludicrous damage, which has long reload and enormous caliber or is using HE shells. Such thing can wipe all HP of your vehicle, so it is worth to be careful on the battlefield.
